Abstract: Party contention is an important part of Northern Song Dynasty politics. Su Shi's career as an official had always been in the whirlpool of old and new party contention, which not only made Su Shi's career bumpy, but also deeply affected his writing style of ci. Several changes in Su Shi's ci style were accompanied by a political blow. In the early stage of the new-old party struggle, Su Shi was relegated because of his opposition to the reform, which prompted him to really start the creation of ci, and as a result of the continuous development of the party struggle, his ci gradually moved from euphemism to grandeur and openness. "Wutai Poetry Case" and "Relegated Huangzhou" were written in the first trough time in Su Shi's life. Su Shi, who escaped from death, eased his pain with the help of Buddhism and Taoism. The pain of the heart made his words become more relaxed in style. During the years of Yuanyou and Shaosheng, Su Shi was still at the center of the party struggle. The infighting in the old party and the blow of the new party eventually led to Su Shi's demotion to Lingnan. During this period, his ci creation gradually decreased.
