Abstract: By sorting out the literature on the history of foreign language online teaching, we can get a clear perspective that foreign language teaching is closely related to information technology, of which the rapid development has greatly promoted the growth of the former, embodied in the full-scale electronization, datafication and convenient storage of foreign language curriculum. However, in-depth integration of the two is not satisfactory due to the following problems—the lack of online classroom management, students' off-task behaviors, limited functions of online learning platform, and low utilization of learning resources. These drawbacks can only be solved by constructing an effective interaction channel between teachers and students, the deep integration of information technology and foreign language learning, and the construction of foreign language learning platform based on the idea of semantic web, thus to find a path leading to significant development.
