党争是北宋政治的重要内容。苏轼的仕宦生涯始终深陷新旧党争的漩涡之中，这不仅使得苏轼的一生仕途坎坷，也深刻地影响着其词的创作风格。苏轼词风格的几次转变，都与北宋党争的影响有关。新旧党争初期，苏轼因为反对变法而被贬谪出京，这促使他真正开始了词的创作，且由于党争的不断刺激，其词由杭州时的婉约逐渐走向豪放和旷达。“乌台诗案”和贬谪黄州则是苏轼人生中的第一个低谷，死里逃生的苏轼，借助佛道思想排解内心的痛苦，其词在风格上变得更加放旷。元祐、绍圣年间的苏轼仍然处于党争的中心，旧党的内讧和新党的打击，最终使得苏轼被贬往岭南，这一时期，他的词创作也逐渐减少。

"Wutai Poetry Case" and "Relegated Huangzhou" were written in the first trough time in Su Shi's life. Su Shi, who escaped from death, eased his pain with the help of Buddhism and Taoism. The pain of the heart made his words become more relaxed in style. During the years of Yuanyou and Shaosheng, Su Shi was still at the center of the party struggle. The infighting in the old party and the blow of the new party eventually led to Su Shi's demotion to Lingnan. During this period, his ci creation gradually decreased.
